Meanwhile, Sarang stood near the gate, her eyes lifting to her wristwatch every few seconds. The street outside their house was quiet except for the occasional passing vehicle, and each distant engine sound made her heart jump slightly in anticipation. Ten minutes had already passed since the bus was supposed to arrive. Her fingers tightened around her phone as she considered calling the school teacher. Just as she unlocked the screen, a familiar horn echoed down the road. She froze.
The school bus came into view, turning the corner slowly. The tension in her shoulders melted instantly. She hadn’t realized how tightly she had been holding herself together until that moment.
